Els met her first celebrity today. She came along with me to my haircut so I could show her off to Alyssa. She was, naturally, a big hit at the salon. As Will walked in carrying her, he didn't even make it more than a few feet before he was stopped by a tall, thin blonde. Since she was wearing some kind of robe thingy, I thought she was a salon employee. It wasn't until we had left that Will told me it was Jenna Elfman.

Eluned wouldn't go to sleep last night until she nursed. From 7 p.m. on, we gave her two bottles, went for a walk around the neighborhood -- she'd doze off but always woke up again. Finally around 11, on a hunch, I took her to bed and nursed her. She drifted right off and slept until 7 a.m. the next morning.

This is the first time she's expressed any kind of clear preference or desire for me.

Eluned slept through the night last night: over 8 hours!

The night before last, she nursed to sleep by 10 p.m. and slept straight through to 4 a.m., missing her last bottle of the night. She even slept through her diaper change. When she woke up, we fed her the bottle she'd missed, and then she went back to sleep until 9 a.m.

Last night she again nursed to sleep by 10, but this time she slept (right through another diaper change) until 6 a.m. At that point, though, she was up for the day.

All this makes a nice change since, for the last couple of weeks, she's been making up for all that newborn not-sleeping time we missed out on. She didn't want to deny us that experience after all.

Also, we had another appointment this past week with Binky (actually with Rowena, who works with Binky; Binky had a family emergency). Eluned is up to 9 pounds, 12 ounces.

Eluned dreams. We don't know what she dreams about, but she often smiles while she's dreaming. And occasionally, she "nurses" in her sleep.

At our latest appointment with Binky, Els weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces -- a gain of 1 pound in just under 2 weeks! It looks like we've finally figured out what works for me and Els.

That also explains this weekend.

Els has been generous with sleep. Since she came home from the hospital she almost always sleeps from about midnight/1 a.m. until 5 or 6 a.m. (Yes, we do know how lucky we are.) I just keep hoping she'll stay on this schedule when I go back to work.

Will and I have worked out a pretty good system. He stays up later than I do anyway, so he's been taking the last bottle and change. Then I take the early morning change and feeding.

Well, this past weekend she finally had a good growth spurt. On Saturday, she tore through 20 ounces of bottled milk, and who know how much more from nursing. It was 4 a.m. before she went to sleep. Will was up with her the whole night, and I got up when she woke up again at 7:30 Sunday morning.

Happily, she seems to have mostly gone back to her usual schedule.
