Eluned can sit in the big kid swings now, so we've tried those a couple of times. But she gets so excited to be swinging that she forgets and lets go of the chains. So we're back to the baby swing for now.

A few days ago when I knocked on the door at Bertha's to pick Els up, I could hear her saying "Mommy Mommy" and running towards the door.
And tonight Els brought me a flower.Comments:Sarah: She has such a sweet nature (must take after Mommy and Daddy)!Add a comment:

Update on a previous post: not two days after I posted about the car seat and the gate, Eluned buckled the chest clasp on her car seat by herself. She still needs us to line the two sides up for her, but then she can fasten them together. She clearly finds the sound of the buckle satisfying.
It's quite nice for me because Els used to cry when it was time to get in her car seat. But now that she has a role, she's much more accepting of her car seat.
Also, Els knows how the handle on the downstairs gate works. She doesn't have the strength or the leverage to open and close it yet, but she knows how. And she's just about figured out the handle on the upstairs gate.Comments:Sarah: When I was a school bus driver, I found that children often seemed to take great pleasure in the seat belt or infant seat buckles. Since I was keeping my eyes on the road, I was using my ears to listen for belts being unbuckled. The litle darlings delighted in making me pull over and come back to check on them when I heard the unbuckle sound not folled by the click of the re-buckle. Children seem to delight in learning when and how they can affect adults' behaviors.Add a comment:

Eluned takes great joy in every new sound she learns how to make. Her very latest sound involves sucking air in backwards over her vocal chords. Els is delighted and does it over and over. Unfortunately for Mommy and Daddy, this sounds like she's struggling for breath.
Comments:Sarah: There's probably a language somewhere in the world that uses that sound as a phoneme. Consider this: perhaps Els is prepping her skills as a future lingust. Whilst giving her parents occasional fits of anxiety. How clever of her.Add a comment:

Eluned loves the gardening store as much as her mother and both of her grandmothers. I wore her in the Ergo in to the nursery to see if they had any herbs. They did, but it's hard to look at plants with a 20-plus pound baby tied to your chest, so I let her down.
Els ran all over the nursery. She pointed out flowers and plants; I had to pull her away from the cacti and succulents. She climbed under the shelf of herbs. She was fascinated by a decoration of a yellow and blue sun. Near the registers she found a display right at her level of brightly colored hanging containers for candles, so she spent a long time with those.
A family with several children came in and Els ran right up to their two year old boy, looked at him, and then ran away. I wonder if she thought he was Nathan, her friend from Bertha's.
When I picked her up and put her back in the Ergo to check out, Els was having none of it. She wanted to stay.Comments:Sarah: I'll bet your peripheral vision is getting a workout, trying to keep track of Eluned and look at flowers and veggies and herbs at the same time. I talk to my tomatoes all the time (Grow little tomatoes; grow!) and maybe Els will, too. Or not. Maybe she will be more sensible.Add a comment:

Tonight Eluned fed me dinner. We shared a plate; we often do. I fed her some bites, and she picked out and ate what appealed to her. Towards the end of the meal, as an experiment, Els picked up a piece of food that she didn't want and tried to put it in my mouth. I ate it, so she fed me another. For several minutes, Els picked up food, put it in my mouth and watched me eat it.
Comments:Sarah: She's learned role reversal at a young age. I think she will make her mark in this world!Add a comment:

Tonight when we sat down on the couch together for bedtime nurseys Eluned kept trying to reach one of her books that was lying behind me, so I picked it up and held it out to her. Next thing I know I'm holding Els in one arm and her book in the other hand, and Els is leafing through the book while she nurses.
